The hotel was designed in traditional Swahili style, nestling within exotic tropical gardens, where colobus monkeys populate ancient baobab trees. This perfect beach-side location offers a wide range of water sports including beach fishing, and the opportunity to explore the nearby coral reefs. The pool, with its own swim-up bar, is a great place to relax and there’s also a separate pool for children. In the evening, the spectacular Makuti-roofed baobab restaurant serves a plentiful buffet of delicious Kenyan cuisine and international classics. February/beginning of March. During this period they organise whale shark tagging expeditions with the East African whale shark trust and the Hubbs sea world center from San Diego. Southern Cross Scuba use spotter planes to find the animals and then bring their guests and scientists there by boat. The reefs in Diani are in a very good state and healthy, so divers can expect a huge variety of fish, crustaceans, moray eels, sting rays sea turtles etc all year round. Sorry, no sharks but the whale shark.

Southern Cross Scuba is one of the world’s first diving operators to exclusively issue all diving certificates including a donation in support to the AWARE foundation in the UK. They are open 52 weeks a year and can run diving courses anytime, even when the sea is too rough to go beyond the reef to dive, the lagoon is deep enough to teach people safely and with a fun experience.
