The island of Barbados is situated on the eastern edge of the Caribbean ring and the UK’s most popular holiday island in the Caribbean. The islands west coast offers calm Caribbean waters and is where most of the islands dives sites can be found including four wrecks. The Stavronikita is the island’s largest wreck and one of the best to be found in the Caribbean, since being sunk intentionally in 1978 it is now home to a good mix of reef fish, corals and sponges. A barrier reef surrounds the island ranging from two to half a mile from shore, several of these reefs are within the recreational diving range of 30m and offer some nice coral and marine life.
Barbados can not compete with the best diving in the Caribbean but divers tend to go as much for the camaraderie of the diving rather than the actual underwater world itself. Barbados is highly recommended for those looking for great beach holiday and some good fun recreational diving.
